From Little Seeds…

It all began with an idea. After my season of homeschooling my children came to a grinding halt last year due to covid. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with myself. The whole world was thrown into homeschooling just as my youngest son was about to sit his gcse’s. and all we were doing went out the window. The weather was glorious I was stuck at home with quite a large plot of land, a flower shop that was closed and as I said, time on my hands. So I thought why not plant a few seeds and do some gardening. Like the rest of the country I poured over online gardening blogs, I read books and I began to dream about being able to supply my shop with fresh British homegrown blooms. Now I work with my daughter who has three young children so between us we began to weed, dig and turn over flower beds. I roped in one of my sons and a son-in-law to help. we began to throw down seeds and I watched for the first signs of life.

It was all very haphazard, but nature rewarded us with an abundance of flowers that we were able to use. This inspired me to go bigger and better. So up went a poly tunnel, More beds were made, said Son-In-Law happens to be a carpenter so he made some amazing wooden beds for both inside the poly tunnel and out, and we set to sowing seeds and buying plants. Each bed was dedicated to a Saint in the hope of some holy help.

There has been something very magical about experiencing this years growth. From the planting of seeds through to now, as we begin to pick and use the flowers we have grown in our busy shop on the Steep Hill in Lincoln and now at our Floral barn where we have our wedding design studio and floral school.

It is wonderful to be able to supplement our flowers with those that are freshly picked, grown locally, and with zero miles to travel and whats more our customers are able to receive bouquets with “in season” flowers in them, which helps us all to embrace the changing seasons and colour palettes. Which I must admit I find hugely satisfying. So when I started this process not quite sure what I was going to do with myself I can actually say, hand on heart, this is my happy place.
